SYNOPSIS

"Die Bücherhüter" is a documentary journey through the world of antiquarians,
a shrinking community of people who have dedicated their lives
to collecting and preserving old books.

The film follows three main characters—booksellers Monika, Rainer, and Christiaan's father Helmut—
and highlights their daily lives, passions, and the challenges they face in a rapidly changing world.
Told from the perspective of an observerwho is also personally involved
as he explores his relationship with his father,
the documentary delves into the transformation of the book as a medium,
the struggle of these "silent guardians"
to maintain their relevance in modern society.
