SYNOPSIS

The smell of burning coal was inextricably linked to most cities in Eastern Germany.

Ovens were integral to most househoulds, as they were used for cooking and heating.

With the arrival of modern technology, coal ovens have been replaced wit stove tops and gas heating.

The Südvorstadt, located close to the city center of Leipzig,

known for its stately homes fell victim to new investors and modern housing designs.

Georg Wunschmann’s personal showpiece, in the Scharnhorstraße,

was one of the last buildings that remained untouched.

The fire of Gentrification is an hommage to old and new residents of this beautiful house.
